Naveen Karthik, MD: Hi everyone. My name is Naveen Karthik, MD. I’m one of the PGY-3 residents at Duke University currently. I’m here at the American Glaucoma Society annual meeting, where we’ll be presenting at the Resident Research Forum tomorrow. The Resident Research Forum is a great opportunity that has been introduced this year, where a lot of the residents are giving posters on different topics.
My topic is actually looking at the accessibility of online websites providing glaucoma patient education, and so we’re looking at 10 different websites from glaucoma organizations and looking at different metrics, including using accessibility tools that have been previously established, as well as criteria from national guidelines. Overall, our results showed that there was some variation in the accessibility of these different websites. Some key areas that are areas for improvement include things like menu, navigability, images of texts, hover states, and contrast. So I think as we continue to go forward, it would be great to continue to improve those areas, particularly for patients who have low vision in order to help them be able to get those education materials in a way that’s most accessible for them. Thank you. GP
