Hi, my name is Samantha Goldburg, MD, and I’m the glaucoma fellow at Cleveland Clinic. This is my second year at AAO, and so far, I've attended the glaucoma subspecialty day. My favorite part of this day has been the Glaucoma Group Therapy [session]. There are many takeaways that I will take with me back to practice leaving this meeting.
One of these is when you’re doing a canaloplasty 360°, or even less, it could be helpful to click to release the viscoelastic on the way out rather than on the way in. This will help decrease the risk of Descemet membrane detachment.
Another pearl I learned is that when you place an AlloFlo scleral reinforcement graft (Iantrek), you can get a membrane that forms in between the grafts and that can lead to increased pressure afterwards. So, it can be helpful to use a YAG laser to shoot at that membrane between the 2 grafts to help open that space again. GP
